Eater biography
Eater is an online food and restaurant review website. It was founded in 2005 by Ben Leventhal and Lockhart Steele. The website covers food and drink news, dining guides, and product recommendations, as well as a variety of features, essays, and columns. Eater's coverage includes cities across the United States and the world, with local editors producing original content specific to their areas. The website has been awarded two James Beard Awards for best food blog.
Eater controversies
In 2018, Eater faced backlash over a review of a Philadelphia restaurant, Marigold Kitchen. The review was criticized for its focus on the white chef's use of cultural ingredients in his cooking, and for its perceived insensitivity to the restaurant's location in a predominantly Black neighborhood. Eater's editor-in-chief, Amanda Kludt, issued an apology on behalf of the website, acknowledging the review's flaws and committing to a more thoughtful approach in the future.
