The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) was established in 1989 with the mandate to lead the development and application of space knowledge for the benefit of Canadians and humanity. The agency is responsible for managing Canada's space program and for coordinating and promoting Canadian space activities. The CSA is also responsible for the development of Canadian space technologies, which are used in a variety of industries, including telecommunications, environmental monitoring, and resource management. As a member of the International Space Station (ISS) program, the CSA has contributed to the construction and maintenance of the ISS. Canadian astronauts have also participated in ISS missions and have conducted research in space on a variety of topics, including the effects of microgravity on the human body and the production of pharmaceuticals in space. The CSA has also been involved in a number of other international space missions, including the Mars Odyssey mission and the Rosetta mission, which explored a comet. The agency's contributions to these missions have included the development of scientific instruments and the provision of expertise in areas such as robotics and mission management.
